Three questions that need different answers
Is the material actually Epitalon? How much of the detectable sample is the target peptide? How much target peptide is actually present? These are related questions, but they are not interchangeable.
An Epitalon label reading “99% pure” can sound comprehensive while leaving two of those questions unanswered. The result needs a method, a sample identity and an explanation of what the percentage measures.
What chromatography measures
High-performance liquid chromatography separates components of a sample. A detector produces a chromatogram, and the laboratory may calculate the target peak’s area as a proportion of the relevant detected peaks.

Substances that are not detected under that method are not necessarily represented in the reported percentage. A chromatographic purity figure should therefore not be interpreted as a complete inventory of everything in the container.
What mass spectrometry adds
Mass spectrometry provides information about molecular mass and can help assess whether a sample is consistent with Epitalon’s expected molecular mass. Interpretation requires attention to charge states, counterions and the method used.
Identity testing and impurity separation complement each other. Neither automatically establishes how many milligrams of active peptide are present in a vial. Quantitative assay or peptide-content testing addresses that separate question.
How to read the certificate
- Match the batch or lot number to the material being supplied.
- Check the sample description, chemical form and test date.
- Identify the laboratory and verify the report through its own channels where possible.
- Look for methods, specifications and actual results rather than a pass label alone.
- Check whether identity, quantity and relevant contaminants were tested separately.

A simple example
Suppose a fictional Epitalon report lists 99% HPLC purity but contains no quantity assay. That result does not prove a vial labeled 10 mg contains 10 mg of Epitalon. This example illustrates the difference between relative purity and absolute amount; it is not a report for an actual product.
Water, counterions and other material can also affect how dry mass relates to peptide content. Comparing two suppliers by a single percentage can therefore be misleading.
A report belongs to a particular sample
The first question is whether the tested sample represents the material you are evaluating. A report for a different batch, an unspecified powder or a previous production run does not verify a current vial.
Traceability connects the container, lot number and laboratory submission. Without that connection, an authentic laboratory report can still be irrelevant to the product in front of you.
For an Epitalon certificate, check that the chemical description is consistent throughout. The heading, sequence and expected mass should not refer to different substances without an explanation.
Detection limits and missing tests
A laboratory can only report what its methods were designed to assess. “Not detected” means below the method’s detection capability under its conditions; it does not mean that every possible impurity was excluded.
A missing test is not a passing result. If a certificate contains only identity and chromatography, it should not be described as a complete microbiological assessment. Likewise, a sterility result does not answer the question of peptide quantity.
Specifications help interpret the numbers. A report should make clear what result was expected, what was measured and how the laboratory decided whether it met the stated requirement.
Questions about independent testing
Independent testing can reduce reliance on a seller’s own claims, but independence alone does not solve every problem. The laboratory needs a suitable method, the submitted sample must be traceable, and the result must be interpreted correctly.
Ask whether the report can be verified directly with the laboratory. A cropped image that hides the sample description or report identifier provides less information than a complete document.
Do not infer that a laboratory endorses a supplier or recommends human use merely because it analyzed a sample. Testing services and clinical recommendations serve different purposes.
Comparing two certificates fairly
Suppose two Epitalon reports show different purity percentages. Before ranking them, check whether they used comparable methods and whether both also assessed identity and quantity.
A slightly higher percentage does not compensate for a missing batch number or an unexplained mismatch in chemical form. A more complete report may be more informative even when its headline number looks less impressive.
The useful comparison is the scope and reliability of the evidence supplied. A single percentage is only one part of that assessment.
Why testing does not equal medical approval
An analytical report describes the sample tested. It cannot establish treatment effectiveness or resolve every risk associated with administration. It also cannot prove that storage conditions remained appropriate after testing.
